Boy, 6, dies of heart attack; collapsed during team pictures

CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. – A 6-year-old boy who collapsed at a baseball field in Georgia while taking pictures with his teammates has died.

WTVC-TV reports Brantley Chandler died Thursday, hours after suffering a heart attack. Brantley’s mother Meghan Bryson says he was with the other Rock Spring Mustangs getting ready for the team picture when he collapsed.

Bryson says Brantley was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says an estimated 960 babies in the U.S. are born each year with the heart defect, which affects normal blood flow.

The last photo taken of Brantley was his individual shot for the team.

Brantley’s obituary says the first-grader was the Mustangs’ catcher and lived in the northern Georgia town of Chickamauga.
