Matt Damon on Ben Affleck: ‘He’s great’

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Ben Affleck did not speak to reporters Monday at an event for his HBO series “Project Greenlight,” but his longtime friend and collaborator Matt Damon said Affleck was doing “great.”

“He’s got a big smile on his face tonight,” said Damon on the red carpet.

Affleck, who wore a ring on his left ring finger, posed for photos and signed autographs at the screening in downtown Los Angeles.

Affleck and wife Jennifer Garner announced their plans to divorce in June after 10 years of marriage.

Damon and Affleck are executive producers on “Project Greenlight,” which follows the journey of aspiring filmmakers. Season four premieres September 13.

Before heading into the event, Damon also offered Affleck well-wishes for his upcoming birthday on Aug. 15:

“I wish him well you know, but he’s 43,” he joked. “It’s not 40. It’s not 45. It’s like 43. You know it’s a forgettable birthday. I don’t even remember my 43rd birthday.”
