TORONTO – The Weeknd’s charmed year continues with his first No. 1 hit.
The Toronto R&B star’s Max Martin-assisted pop confection “Can’t Feel My Face” has topped the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S., usurping Omi’s inescapable “Cheerleader” remix.
The 25-year-old singer born Abel Tesfaye has been on an unbelievable run over the past 11 months.
Since last September, the four-time Juno winner has had four songs reach the Top 10 on the U.S. chart, beginning with the Ariana Grande collaboration “Love Me Harder.”
His multi-platinum “Earned It” then peaked at No. 3, and “The Hills” subsequently hit the 10th spot. The former still sits at No. 32, while “The Hills” lingers in the 11th spot, giving Tesfaye three songs in the Top 40.
His hotly anticipated sophomore record, “Beauty Behind the Madness,” is due out Aug. 28 with guest appearances from Ed Sheeran and Lana Del Rey.
