TORONTO – Drake can now claim the first million-selling album of 2015.
The Toronto rapper’s “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” just surpassed that milestone in the U.S., according to Billboard.
The only other album to jet past the million mark in sales in 2015 was Taylor Swift’s “1989,” which was a 2014 release.
Drake now has four albums that have reached platinum certification in the U.S., with 2011’s “Take Care” standing as his only double-platinum release.
He has generally seemed to regard “If You’re Reading This…” as a mixtape rather than a proper album, and the collection didn’t receive a physical release until months after it had been available to stream.
The 28-year-old celebrated the milestone on Instagram.
“Platinum off the tape. Views up next,” he said, referring to presumed followup “Views From the 6.”
“Thank you once again.”
