KAMLOOPS – The worldwide community of museums will celebrate the 36th Anniversary of International Museum Day around May 18th, 2014.
In 2014, the theme for International Museum Day is “Museum collections make connections.” This theme is a reminder that museums are living institutions that help create bonds between visitors, generations and cultures around the world. The International Council of Museums (ICOM) established International Museum Day in 1977 to encourage public awareness of the role of museums in the development of society. Momentum has been rising unabated ever since. In 2013, International Museum Day garnered record-breaking participation with almost 35,000 museums hosting events in more than 143 countries.
In support of International Museum Day, the Kamloops Museum and Archives will be offering free admission on Saturday, May 17th, 2014 from 9:30am to 4:30pm.
