Oliver police seek identity of man suspected of cannabis store theft

Oliver RCMP are turning to the public for help in identifying a robbery suspect.

The man is alleged to have assaulted staff at an Oliver cannabis store prior to stealing cannabis products.

Police were called to the B.C. Cannabis store in Oliver on Feb.22, around 11 a.m., after a report of a man entering the store and assaulting staff after being denied a refund.

He then proceeded to steal several cannabis items before fleeing the store.

Police searched the area but failed to locate the suspect.

The man is described as a Caucasian man with a French Canadian accent. He was wearing a navy blue ball cap, black jacket, dark pants and shoes, with short, light blonde facial hair.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who can identify the suspect is asked to call Oliver RCMP at 250-498-3422, or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.

“We’re releasing video of the suspect to the public in hope of identifying him and prevent him from committing further offences of this kind in the Okanagan,” Const. James Grandy said in a release issued this morning, March 4.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
