Confusing crosswalk signage corrected

PENTICTON – New signage on Penticton’s Main Street won’t be confusing once the street officially opens.

The directional arrows for the informational signs are reverse to those of the pedestrian crosswalk buttons. The backwards nature of the signage was noticed by an iNFOnews.ca reader yesterday, June 6.

The signs explaining the operation of revitalized pedestrian crosswalks at Nanaimo Avenue and Main Street and Westminster Avenue and Main Street were posted in reverse on purpose, Downtown Penticton Association Executive Director Kerri Milton says.

“The signs are all custom made, and we didn’t want them damaged prior to the official opening of the street,” Milton says in an email.

The signs are now being turned around so the sign’s arrows coincide with the pedestrian crosswalk signal buttons, but Milton says they will all be bagged for protection prior to the street’s opening.

The revitalization work on the 200-block of Main Street is expected to be complete later this month, with an official reopening of the street scheduled for 10 a.m. on June 18.
