COSAR team rescues injured horseback rider
WEST KELOWNA – COSAR was called to help with a rescue after a man riding horseback along a remote stretch of Okanagan Lake was thrown and suffered a broken leg Monday.
The accident happened at about 7 p.m. Aug. 11 and B.C. Ambulance was called first to help the injured 40-year-old man, but because the beach, located about 1.5 km north of Okanagan Lake Resort is difficult to access, the Central Okanagan Search and Rescue team was called to assist.
COSAR brought five team members and their rescue boat the "Sweatman" to the scene.
When they found the man they were able to stabilize him before loading him on the boat. He was taken to Kelowna and transferred to a waiting ambulance at the Water Street boat launch where he was flown to Kelowna General Hospital.
