Boil water notice issued for Summerland

SUMMERLAND – A boil water notice is in effect for Summerland after contaminants entered the district’s water stream during a water treatment process Monday.

The notice was issued Monday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. While there was only a small amount of contaminants that entered the system, safety precautions needed to take effect, said Devon Van der meulen, the district’s utilities manager.

Water samples will be taken from various sites and submitted to a lab for testing, he said. Interior Health will determine when the notice can be lifted based on lab results.

Van der meulen said he hopes the notice will be lifted by the end of the week.

For now, it is recommended that residents boil water for a minute before using to cook, clean or consume.
