Penticton formalizes fleet maintenance agreement with regional district

PENTICTON – A mutually beneficial agreement between the City of Penticton and the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen which has been in force for a decade was formalized by city council earlier this week.

For the past 10 years, the city has been looking after maintenance of regional district vehicles in a verbal agreement that city staff say has benefitted both parties in terms of resource sharing and cost savings.

General Manager of Infrastructure Mitch Moroziuk told council Monday, June 6, a formalized, written agreement would clearly set out responsibilities for both parties.

The five-year agreement outlines duties undertaken by city staff on regional district vehicles, including preventive maintenance work, drive train repairs and other miscellaneous repairs. The agreement also describes the city’s charging structure.

Moroziuk said the proposed agreement helps the city offset some of the cost of maintaining the city’s fleet, in addition to reducing the amount the city pays the regional district for being a member.
