Altercation in Penticton leads to arrest on drug charges

PENTICTON – A disagreement between two men led to the arrest of one on drug trafficking charges in Penticton last week.

Police responded to an altercation in the alley of the 500-block of Ellis Street last Monday, May 30, after a complaint of an argument between to men.

The two men arguing in a pickup truck exited the vehicle and began assaulting each other. One of the men threw a punch while the other used a bat. The man wielding the bat got into the truck and drove off.

Police intercepted him at Nelson Avenue and Manitoba Street. The man told police he didn’t assault anyone, that he’d been attacked with a bat, so he got another bat from a stranger.

He was arrested after being found in possession of the bat, a large quantity of marijuana, and money, consistent with trafficking. Police charged him with possession for the purpose of trafficking and assault with a weapon. Police continue to investigate the incident.

The incident was one of more than 300 calls for service Penticton RCMP responded to last week.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
