Deerhurst Resort owner to spend $10 million sprucing up Central Ontario landmark

TORONTO – The venerable Deerhurst Resort in Ontario’s Muskoka cottage country is in line for a facelift.

Skyline International says it’s spending $10 million over two years on the resort’s guest rooms, bathrooms and public spaces such as the Maple pub and patio, lakeside waterfront and Splash Zone recreational area.

Deerhurst has long been an upscale landmark east of Huntsville, Ont., with a history under various owners dating back to 1896.

Skyline — a Toronto-based company listed on the Tel Aviv stock exchange — acquired the property in 2011 and is in the midst of a planned $500-million expansion and redevelopment that will include the Lakeside Lodge waterfront condominium project.

The company’s other properties include the Horseshoe Resort southwest of Orillia, Ont., and the Pantages Hotel in downtown Toronto, near the Eaton Centre and Massey Hall.

The company has scheduled a one-night event at the Pantages on Thursday to showcase its plans for Deerhurst to the media and potential condo buyers.
