Search for missing man in Vernon ends quickly thanks to good samaritan

VERNON – A good samaritan helped shape a happy ending in the search of a missing senior earlier this week in Vernon.

Fifteen members of Vernon Search and Rescue responded to a call around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, for a missing elderly man last seen near the Wholesale Club in the downtown area, the rescue society posted on its Facebook page.

There were indications the man might be affected by some level of dementia.

“After only one hour, the gentleman was found safe and sound, however it was not by a search and rescue member. It was by a passerby that just happened to notice an individual walking at night in a location that just didn't seem to fit.”

In the end, the man had made his way up to The Rise, a 12 km walk from where he was last seen.

“Thanks to all that came out to help and most importantly, thank you to our honorary search and rescue saviour that helped to get us back to our beds in record time,” the society said.
