Jasper Simmons lands in Winnipeg after dramatic exit from Stampeders

WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed Jasper Simmons to their practice roster Thursday following the linebacker’s dramatic exit form Calgary.

The Stampeders released Simmons on Tuesday after his agent went on a Twitter tirade to complain about Simmons’ playing time.

Simmons had struggled to find playing time since being traded from Ottawa to Calgary in the off-season. He had four tackles in four games with the Stampeders this year.

That’s a stark contrast to the 2014 season, when Simmons had 80 tackles and six interceptions and was named the Redblacks’ most outstanding player and top defensive player

Simmons began his career with Toronto in 2012.

Winnipeg (3-5) has a bye this week before hosting Calgary on Aug. 29.
