Snow expected on Southern Interior highways today

THOMPSON-OKANAGAN – Mother Nature is making sure we don't get too comfortable by dropping up to 15 centimetres of snow on Interior highways today.

With both rain and snow expected on the Coquihalla Highway and Highway 3, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for today, June 14.

There could be up to 15 centimetres of snow at the Coquihalla Summit through tomorrow morning, the weather office warns. Drivers are being advised the road could be slick and are urged to drive cautiously through the area.

Similar conditions are also expected over Allison Pass on Highway 3.

The Coquihalla Summit is at 4 Celsius right now, and precipitation is expected to be heaviest after 9 p.m. tonight.

Showers with risk of thunderstorms are possible throughout the region today with another chance of rain tomorrow. Temperatures are expected to remain below the seasonal normal high of 25 C for the rest of the week.
