Marijuana grow ops to pay big fee to set up shop in Lumby

LUMBY – It wasn’t a unanimous decision, but village councillors in Lumby decided to slap a $1,500 fee on business licences for medical marijuana production facilities.

No word if there are any entrepreneurs looking at Lumby as a place to build weed production facility to help supply Canada’s medical pot program.

Currently a business licence will run you anywhere from $25 to $130 depending on the kind of business.

For example, an average retailer with square footage between 1,000 to 5,000 square feet is looking at an annual business licence fee of $50.

Until this week the most expensive licence was for retailers with over 5,000 square feet or a gas station card lock. They're charged $130.
