As NHL lockout drags on, players from all over descend on the desert for weeklong camp
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The desert has become a hockey destination this week.
More than a dozen players have travelled to Arizona to join the Phoenix Coyotes’ informal workouts, creating a lockout minicamp of sorts.
Players like Sidney Crosby, Patrick Marleau and Ryan Miller have skated at the Coyotes’ practice facility this week as a way to stay in shape and play against new competition as the NHL lockout drags on.
About 30 players have participated in the workouts, splitting up into two groups for drills before getting together in scrimmages that last 40 minutes to an hour.
About 200 fans watched them skate on Thursday, the 75th day of the NHL lockout.
