Mudslide hampers Highway 97 traffic near Monte Lake

A mudslide along Highway 97 is reducing traffic to a single lane between Monte Lake and Falkland.

An afternoon of rain began washing water over the highway today, June 28, as a storm system rolled over the region.

According to Drive B.C., the mudslide is between Chase-Falkland Road and Monte Lake Road.

Drive B.C. listed the lane closure on its website at 4:23 p.m., June 28.

The Monte Lake and Westwold area was ravaged by the White Rock Lake wildfire last summer, which burned south of Westwold before moving into the Monte Lake community.

It's unclear how long the mudslide will block highway traffic, but Drive B.C. expects to update its page by 6 p.m.
