DEBRECEN, Hungary – Cassandre Prosper had 11 points and 14 rebounds to lift Canada to a 67-44 victory over Egypt on Tuesday to close out the group stage of the FIBA under-17 women’s basketball World Cup.
Toby Lee Fournier had 13 points and 14 boards, while Deniya Trinity Prawl hauled down 12 rebounds to go with five assists and six steals.
Prosper also had three assists, six steals and three blocks for the Canadians, who got off to a slow start before reeling off a 12-0 run late in the first quarter. Canada led 17-6 at the end of the first, and 32-26 at halftime.
The Canadians took a 46-37 lead into the fourth quarter, and then held Egypt scoreless for more than six minutes in the final frame.
Canada plays Wednesday against an opponent yet to be determined.
