Penticton Beach Cruise boosted by better weather

PENTICTON – The weather didn’t look like it was going to cooperate for this year’s Peach City Beach Cruise, but clearer skies resulted in a very successful conclusion to the 2016 version of the event.

“We were very pleased, we ended up with over 700 very spectacular vehicles,” Peach City Beach Cruise President Wayne Wood says, adding it was hard to walk down the street at times because of the crowds.. “We thought we might be in a bit of trouble, because it rained like crazy Friday morning during registration, but in the end people still came and on Saturday the numbers went way up. Once the rains let up, we couldn’t have had a better weekend. It wasn’t too hot or too cold.”

The show’s vehicle capacity is approximately 750, with the car show’s highest ever number of entrants taking place last year when 735 vehicles attended.

“We had outstanding entertainment as well,” Wood says, noting the performance of Las Vegas band Nearly Neil on Friday night and some high energy rock and roll acts on Saturday night.

“It was just hopping. You could feel the ground hopping with people dancing, and the light show,” he says.

Mayor’s Choice in the car show went to Gavin and Marlene Parsons of Vernon for their 1950 Mercury two-door coupe, while overall car show winner was Mervyn Pidherney of Rocky Mountain House, Alta., for his 1954 Buick Roadmaster.
