Brazil president-elect’s son denies wrongdoing over deposits
RIO DE JANEIRO – The son of Brazilian President-elect Jair Bolsonaro is denying wrongdoing in a case involving suspect bank transactions.
The case involves about $300,000 in bank transactions made by Flavio Bolsonaro’s former driver.
Questions have swirled the last week after the government’s Financial Activities Control Council released a report that flagged several suspicious transactions involving current and former members of the state’s legislature.
The report did not name Flavio Bolsonaro, but mentioned his driver Fabricio Jose Carlos de Queiroz.
It said de Queiroz deposited various amounts between January 2016 and January 2017. De Queiroz has not spoken publicly.
Flavio Bolsonaro is currently a state representative and was elected to the Senate in October.
He posted on Twitter on Thursday that he had “done nothing wrong.”
Jair Bolsonaro, who takes office Jan. 1, ran on promises to cut out widespread corruption.
