Urgent need for camp counsellors at Vernon SPCA

VERNON – The Vernon SPCA’s summer camps for kids may be in jeopardy unless more camp counsellors can be found.

“We run our camps for nearly 1,400 children throughout July and August across B.C. and the program is going strong again this year in most communities,” B.C. SPCA humane education manager Paula Neuman says in a release. “Unfortunately we are really struggling to hire enough counsellors for our camps in Vernon.”

The week-long camps immerse kids aged seven to 12 in a range of activities that teach them about companion, farm and wild animals and help them develop skills to make a difference for animals in their community.

The camps offer a variety of activities, including outdoor and indoor games, guest speakers, hand-on creative projects, making toys and treats for the animals, shelter tours and visits with shelter animals.

“We would hate to have to cancel any of the camps, so if anyone is interested in becoming a B.C. SPCA camp counsellor this summer we urge them to contact us as soon as possible,” Neuman says.
