Kamloops man charged with stabbing friend at house party has conviction upheld

KAMLOOPS – A Kamloops man who has been convicted and sentenced for manslaughter in the death of his friend has lost his latest application to appeal his conviction.

Torbin Alec, 33, pleaded guilty in October 2013 to manslaughter. Jesse Seymour was stabbed to death at a house party in downtown Kamloops nearly four years ago.

In prior court proceedings, Crown lawyer Rob Bruneau detailed the allegations against Alec, including stabbing Seymour six times, twice in the heart, after a fist fight.

Bruneau told the court back in 2013 that Alec fled the scene to his mother's apartment on Yew Street after the stabbing. That's where police found him along with a blood covered knife and a bucket of bloody water.

Alec also applied in his appeal to provide fresh evidence, including a Gladue report, a document used to detail the history of aboriginal offenders.
