Charges upgraded for Joe Rich woman accused of stabbing husband

KELOWNA – A 58-year-old Joe Rich woman accused of stabbing her husband while he slept earlier this year has been charged with attempted murder.

Police say in the early morning of April 18, 2016, Christine Eve Haynes attacked Kenneth Haynes, 70, with an 'edged weapon' in their home on the 4600-block of Highway 33 East. Five other people were inside the home at the time in what RCMP called a 'violent family disturbance'.

Haynes had to be subdued after the alleged stabbing and the victim was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, Const. Jesse O’Donaghey said in a media release at the time.

The woman was initially charged with aggravated assault but according to court documents a charge of attempted murder has now been added.

Court records also say she is currently in custody and will appear in court July 19.

Calls to RCMP were not returned.
