Worker dies at Gahcho Kué diamond mine in the Northwest Territories.
YELLOWKNIFE – The owners of the Gahcho Kué diamond mine in the Northwest Territories say a worker has died of injuries sustained on the job.
Mountain Province Diamonds, which owns the mine with De Beers Canada, says the individual worked for a contractor.
The company says colleagues, the mine’s emergency response team and the on-site medical team made every effort to save the worker’s life.
Mountain Province says the death is being investigated and all non-essential work at the mine has been suspended.
A grief counsellor arrived at the mine on Thursday night and additional counselling services are available to all employees.
Gahcho Kué is located about 280 kilometres northeast of Yellowknife.
