Your input wanted on public ice plan

VERNON – The City of Vernon is holding an open house on the future of ice and arenas in the city.

Recreation services and MQN Architects staff want your input on plans to replace the ice at the aging, and falling apart, Civic Arena.

The city is looking to find out what user groups and citizens are looking for in terms of a facility. The groups range from hockey leagues to dry floor users like roller derby in Greater Vernon, including Vernon, Coldstream, BX and Swan Lake areas.

The open house will begin with a walk-through and presentation of the preliminary plans, followed by a question and answer session.

The options include building a second ice-pad at Kal Tire Place, building a second ice-pad at the Priest Valley Arena or building a stand-alone arena.

The referedum will be held during the November civic election on the decommissioning of the Civic.

The open house will be held on Wednesday, May 28 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Kal Tire Place.
