Police investigate residential and vehicle break ins

PENTICTON  – Residential break and enters and theft from vehicles continue to keep Penticton RCMP busy.

RCMP media spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth said police are investigating several break and enters that occurred in and around the city last week, including the following incidents:

  • Officers attended a Wilson Street address after a construction worker reported a number of tool cribs had been broken into. The incident occurred sometime overnight Wednesday, June 22. Thieves made off with thousands of dollars in tools in the incident, which is under investigation.
  • Investigation continues into a break and enter that occurred at Warren Avenue Auto Trim Design overnight Thursday, June 23. Two men in a four door sedan were seen drilling out the lock and stealing multiple high end remote control vehicles and accessories, worth several thousand dollars. A video is being reviewed for suspects filmed during the incident. 
  • The Penticton Fire Department reported fire hose couplings stolen from the Cherry Lane Mall on Friday morning, June 24. The couplings are easily identified and have scrap value for the brass they contain. Police have checked salvage yards in the city.
  • On Sunday night, June 26, between 7:30 and 9 p.m., a 3000-watt Honda generator was stolen after two chains anchoring the unit to a refrigerated truck were cut. The units were located on Parsons Road in Okanagan Falls.

Several theft from vehicles were also reported in the region this week, including:

  • Two vehicles were broken into on Heritage Ave. in Heritage Hills on Monday, June 27. Golf clubs and a GPS were taken.
  • Theft from a vehicle on Martin Street the same night cost the owner a GPS and some CDs, and in another incident a vehicle on Townley Street was broken into, resulting in the theft of a passport, biking and work gear.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
