Luxembourg able to play Euro 2016 qualifier in Belarus despite mass food poisoning

MOSCOW – Luxembourg will play a European Championship qualifying game against Belarus as planned on Tuesday despite 16 players hit with food poisoning.

Luxembourg contacted UEFA about possibly rescheduling the game after 16 of the 20-man squad complained of severe stomachaches after a dinner of spaghetti bolognese in a Belarusian hotel on Sunday.

However, team spokesman Marc Diederich tells The Associated Press that all of the affected players are feeling “much better,” and will be able to play against Belarus.

Separately, UEFA tells the AP that Moldova’s home game against Montenegro, also scheduled for late Tuesday, “will go ahead as planned” following days of mass protests against the government in the Moldovan capital Chisinau.
