KAMLOOPS – Mounties chased a grad party around the city to three different locations last night as students tried to evade road checks and enforcement.

According to a release, up to 1,600 students were expected to attend the party, originally planned for the Inks Lake Forestry site, Staff Sgt. Robert Daly said in a release.

Massive grad bush parties are nothing new to Kamloops so RCMP set up a road stop at the entrance to check for alcohol but once word got out on social media, the party was moved to the grasslands in Batchelor Heights.

When police learned the location changed, so did they. They set up another road check so the party moved again, this time to Tranquille Road and Fredrick Road so police moved yet again and conducted enforcement again.

"Due to a strong police presence and some very responsible parenting action, the grad party was not able to exceed 300 students," Daly said.

Police charged two men from Kamloops caught with MDMA, cocaine, marijuana, cash and a machete. They seized alcohol and drugs from all three locations and issued several violation tickets.

An ambulance was required to take one teen to hospital for treatment for over consumption of alcohol. They're also investigating an assault and another case of mischief to a vehicle as well as a 90-day roadside prohibition and 24 hour driving suspension.

"Several parents attended to pick up children to prevent any further impaired driving by youth," Daly said. "The grad party ended with all students leaving the site which will require a cleanup due to garbage and empty bottles littering the site."
