Grass fire near Scandia dealt with quickly

KELOWNA – The Kelowna Fire Department is reminding residents to properly dispose of burning cigarettes after a small grass fire broke out not far from the side of Highway 97 this afternoon.

Shortly after 1:15 p.m. the fire department received multiple 911 calls of smoke in the area just north of Scandia Golf and Games, a release says.

"Once an access route into the area was determined, crews did locate a grass fire that was approximately 70’ X 100’ in size on vacant land behind and north of Scandia," it says. "The fire was quickly contained and then knocked down by the first arriving crews.

"The Kelowna Fire Department would like to remind people to dispose of smoking materials in the appropriate containers."
