Kelowna Mounties investigating suspicious sudden death downtown

KELOWNA – Police are treating the death of a 48-year-old woman found dead at a downtown home as suspicious and are questioning a man in custody.

Police were alerted to the body in the 800 block of Cawston Avenue by a 911 call at 1:45 a.m. today July 2, Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Const. Jesse O'Donaghey said in a release. 

"The circumstances surrounding the woman's death are unclear at this time and police are treating her death as suspicious in nature," he said.

A 53-year-old Kelowna man was detained "for investigation" and remains in police custody.

"RCMP have reason to believe that this was an isolated incident and the public is not at risk," he said. "The scene has been secured by investigators, who are now awaiting a search warrant for the property."

The RCMP Serious Crime Unit is investigating along with the B.C. Coroners Service.
