iN TRAFFIC: Chances of flurries in the Okanagan today

With temperatures still below freezing, drivers can expect Interior highways to be slippery in some areas.

Drivers are being advised of compact snow on Highway 1 from Jackass Mountain Summit to Spences Bridge, according to DriveB.C. Highway 5 is slushy with slippery sections between the Great Bear Snowshed and Coquihalla Summit; and Highway 12 has compact snow from the start of the highway to Lytton.

DriveB.C. is also reporting slippery sections on several stretches highway this morning – Highway 3 between Princeton and Hedley; Highway 3A east of Keremeos; Highway 5A from the beginning of the highway to the Highway 97 junction; Highway 6 EW between Vernon and Cherryville; Highway 97  between Vernon and Coldstream; Highway 97A between Sicamous and Enderby; all of Highway 97B; and Westside Road.

Charles Andrews, who commutes from Armstrong to Sicamous on Highway 97A, reports that this morning's trip, Dec. 8, was mostly bare but wet all the way.

Taking a look at weather, the day starts off at -3 Celsius in Kamloops before cooling to -6 C over the course of the day. Both Vernon and Kelowna will begin the day at -7 C, warm slightly to -5 C and then drop to -6 C, and there is a chance of flurries this morning and afternoon. Temperatures in Penticton will hover between -1 C and -2 C with periods of snow this morning and afternoon.

At the ski hills, Big White Mountain Resort is reporting 2 centimetres of new snow over the past 24 hours and 14 cm over the past week. Sun Peaks Ski Resort got 4 cm over the past 48 hours and 5 cm in the past week. Silver Star Mountain Resort has 3 cm of new snow and 10 cm since last week. Apex Mountain Resort has no new snow but 5 cm over the past week.
