KELOWNA – Despite some inclement weather, residents and local politicians turned out to show their national pride for all the Canada Day festivities in Kelowna and West Kelowna over the weekend.

June 1 started the Canada Day Bazaar and the Taste of Canada food fair in downtown Kelowna. The Kelowna City band was outside Prospera Place and there was also a classic car show, Kids Zone, Pioneer Gardens and more.

The official Canada Day opening ceremonies started at 12:30 p.m. followed by the the official cutting of the Canada Day birthday cake.

There was musical acts at Tugboat Beach, hip-hop vocal and dance acts and the Parks Alive Power Stage in Waterfront Park.

The Canada Day finale fireworks started at 10:30 p.m. and attracted tens of thousands of local patriots.

Across the lake in West Kelowna, the annual Westside Daze also celebrated Canada Day with an array of family fun.

There was a Family Zone, a Car and Motorcyle Show and Shine, a Westbank Museum tour and dozens of local concession stands.

Canada ceremonies and a birthday-cake cutting started at 3 p.m. attended by local MLA Christy Clark.

Typically the Canada Day weekend is the busiest period of time for the province’s search and rescue teams.

Kelowna resident Jean Beauregard filmed the Waterfront fireworks in 3D and posted it to YouTube.
