Driver who crashed into Penticton motel was trying to run someone over

Penticton RCMP believe the driver of a vehicle that crashed into a motel last week was attempting to run someone over.

A vehicle crashed into the Bowmont Motel on Riverside Drive in Penticton around 8:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, causing significant damage.

The driver fled the scene of the crash but police officers found the vehicle abandoned outside the city later that day, according to an RCMP media release.

"Our officer’s initial response was large given the report of someone allegedly attempting to run someone over," Penticton RCMP spokesperson Const. Dayne Lyons said in the release.

The bystander wasn't injured and police said it was an isolated incident.

"The investigation is ongoing as police comb through recovered evidence, surveillance footage and witness statements," Const. Lyons said.

The investigation has "progressed significantly" and is ongoing, RCMP said.
