Zellers store coming to Kamloops

Kamloops will have one of 25 Zellers locations in Canada as the Hudson's Bay Company starts its cross-country brand resurrection this year.

The renewed Zellers stores will open within The Bay locations that already exist. Without their dedicated store, the Zellers retail space will "complement" its new online store, according to a Hudson's Bay news release.

The brick and mortar locations are expected to open this year, but a Hudson's Bay spokesperson said no dates have been confirmed.

Hudson's Bay Company bought the Zellers brand in 1978, operating as its discount division.

At its height in the 1990s there were 350 locations before competitors like Walmart took a toll. Most stores were closed by 2013.

The renewed Zellers brand "taps into the nostalgia" Canadians hold for the brand, an August news release from Hudson's Bay Company reads.

The Bay's Aberdeen Mall location was tapped as one of B.C.'s four locations, with others to open in Vancouver, Surrey and Abbotsford, according to the Zellers website.
