Police: Report of shots fired at mall happened outside

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police say a report of shots fired inside a North Carolina mall were actually noises heard outside the building.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said in a news release that officers were called to Northlake Mall at 3:15 p.m. Monday, but found no victims or suspects.

Police say they have determined if any shots were fired they were outside of the mall and allowed stores to remain open. Officers will increase patrols in the area.

Charlotte Medic said in a news release that no one was injured.

On Christmas Eve, a shopper at Northlake Mall was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer at the mall after getting into a fight, then pointing a gun at the officer. Prosecutors ruled the shooting was justified.
