Dog walker attacked by coyotes in Kamloops park

A man walking his dog was followed and attacked by aggressive coyotes in Kamloops last week.

Three coyotes knocked the man down and he wound up with some scratches at a park in the Juniper Ridge neighbourhood and the dog was uninjured, according to the B.C. Conservation Officer Service in an emailed statement.

He reported the incident to conservation Thursday afternoon, Jan. 26, but the attack happened the night before around 10 p.m.

So far, it's the only recent report of aggressive coyotes in the area.

Conservation officers interviewed the man and patrolled the area. They also installed signage at the park, warning the public to be wary of coyote encounters.

Pet owners are advised to keep their animals on leashes and travel in groups to look as large as possible if a coyote approaches, conservation said.

The investigation continues.
