Kamloops man to spend 10 months behind bars after being found with 28 grams of meth

KAMLOOPS – A Kamloops man with a lengthy criminal record has been sentenced to 10 months in jail for possessing meth for the purpose of trafficking.

On May 29, Kamloops RCMP were called to investigate a report of extortion, and they were given a suspected cell phone number to look into.

Court heard today, July 7, that officials pinged the cell phone location and found the device was being used near Five Avenue and Nicola Street.

Officers arrived and found Brandon Fiddyk riding his bike on the road. He was the only person around at the time. Fiddyk was searched and officers found five Ziploc baggies on him, all containing meth.

The bags totaled up to 28 grams of meth, worth about $1,200. Police also found pipes and $370 in cash on Fiddyk.

Defence lawyer Sheldon Tate says Fiddyk's story is a sad one; he has only a grade nine education and became almost completely estranged from his family.

"His main objective is to get a reasonable sentence," Tate told the court.

Defence and Crown entered a joint submission of 10 months, along with a 10-year firearms prohibition and a 12-month probationary period.

Judge Stella Frame agreed with all of the defence and Crown's submissions. Fiddyk has been in custody since the offence and is being credited with 59 days served.
