OTTAWA – In a March 8 story about proposed legislation that would change the process for handling complaints about the conduct of judges, The Canadian Press erroneously reported that Bill C-9 would remove the federal justice minister from the process.
In fact, should the Canadian Judicial Council set up a hearing panel on whether to remove a judge from office, that panel will provide the justice minister with its recommendation in a report. The justice minister would then be required to respond publicly to the report.
