CHICAGO – Second City says the improv comedy troupe will reopen a few days earlier than anticipated after a fire destroyed its offices in Chicago.
Second City says the first performance will be Thursday at its Mainstage Theatre. It will be a private show to benefit Chicago firefighters. Four firefighters were injured in the Aug. 26 blaze.
Second City’s UP Comedy Club will begin performances Sept. 22 and the troupe’s e.t.c. theatre will resume its shows on Sept. 24.
Second City CEO Andrew Alexander said the theatres were in good condition after the fire but that carpet, wiring and lighting had to be replaced. The fire started in the kitchen of a restaurant next door to Second City and spread.
Second City previously said there would be no shows until Sunday.
