Say goodbye to 56 Vernon bus stops

VERNON – Fifty-six bus stops are being removed and five others are being relocated as part of an effort to improve the efficiency of the B.C. Transit system in Vernon.

City staff have been working with the transit service operators to review spacing and locations of the 300 existing bus stops on certain routes to improve the reliability of the system as a whole. Route 8 remains unchanged.

“Route efficiencies are routinely reviewed as part of transit system operations,” said Amanda Watson, Transportation Manager for the City of Vernon. “During these reviews, schedule reliability is a key consideration. Routes that have too many stops or have stops that are too close together means the bus spends an increased time stopping and starting thereby affecting its efficiency and ability to stay on schedule.”

The current transit system relies on all routes arriving at the downtown exchange at the same time to enable rider transfers, and schedule disruptions because of too many stops were determined to be adversely affecting other routes.
