B.C. man scores $5M in lotto win, plans to keep working

A North Vancouver resident who bought a lottery ticket to celebrate getting a new job may never have to work again.

However, Simon Pleau says he's still going to keep working at his new job as a software engineer even after winning $5 million.

Pleau said he doesn't normally buy lottery tickets but was in a celebrating mood after getting a new job, according to a B.C. Lottery Corporation media release issued today, April 5.

"I bought a lottery ticket and a bottle of champagne to celebrate the new job," Pleau said in the release. "The draw was for that night, so when I found out I won I told my wife we have something else we need to celebrate."

Pleau bought the Lotto 6/49 ticket at the Safeway in Lynn Valley.

Ben Bulmer

After a decade of globetrotting, U.K. native Ben Bulmer ended up settling in Canada in 2009. Calling Vancouver home he headed back to school and studied journalism at Langara College. From there he headed to Ottawa before winding up in a small anglophone village in Quebec, where he worked for three years at a feisty English language newspaper. Ben is always on the hunt for a good story, an interesting tale and to dig up what really matters to the community.
