Southern British Columbians can expect up to 50 mm of rain on Easter Sunday and Monday

Up to 50 millimetres of rain may fall on parts of Southern B.C. over the long weekend.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for Highway 3 from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass, the Boundary region, West Kootenay, Arrow Lakes and Slocan Lake, and the Elk Valley.

Rainfall amounts between 30 and 50 mm are in the forecast.

“Rising freezing levels combined with melting snow may result in increased river flows and possible localized flooding,” according to the statement.

The precipitation is expected to fall between Sunday night, April 9, and Monday, April 10.

“Freezing levels will rise to between 2,000 and 2,500 metres. Rainfall, along with melting snow, may result in pooling water or minor flooding in low-lying areas.”
