MIAMI – Weather forecasters say a new tropical depression has formed far from land in the central Atlantic.
The National Hurricane Center said Wednesday morning it was about 1,215 miles (1,955 kilometres) east of the Lesser Antilles and 1,270 miles (2,044 kilometres) west of the Cape Verde Islands, with maximum sustained winds near 30 mph (48 kph).
It was moving north-northwest at near 8 mph (13 kph), and expected to continue moving in that direction through Thursday.
Forecasters reported it currently poses no threat to land.
