UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm watch ended for Merritt and Nicola region

People in Merritt and the Nicola region were asked to prepare for the possibility of severe weather this afternoon.

Environment Canada had issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the region pointing out that conditions today, May 3, were just right for the development of storms capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain, along with intense lighting.

Conditions are no longer favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms and the watch was cancelled at around 3:15 p.m.
