Wandering bear spotted near Kelowna elementary school

An exciting end to the school day at a Kelowna elementary school when a bear was spotting wandering near by.

Officials at Watson Road Elementary in Kelowna's Glenmore neighbourhood kept the kids inside at the usual dismissal bell out of an abundance of caution, according to a school district media release issued this afternoon, May 16.

The B.C. Conservation Officer Service was called.

The district says parents were notified of the alternative plans for picking up their children.

“Safety is always the priority for schools and staff follow existing procedures to ensure safety for everyone,” the district says.
