Pierre Poilievre compares Kelowna to a third-world country

Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre said Kelowna looks like a third-world country.

The leader of the official opposition tweeted a minute-long video of homeless camps along the Okanagan Rail Trail with the caption: "These images are not from a far away third-world country… This is Kelowna."

Poilievre then firmly lays the blame on the Liberal government.

"After eight years of Trudeau and the NDP," he says.

The minute-long video taken from the social media site TikTok appears to have been filmed from a bicycle which passes roughly 50 homeless campsites in its 57-second duration. The song Hard Sun by the band Indio plays in the background.

Ten hours after the May 30 tweet went out it had been viewed by almost 400,000 people.

Ben Bulmer

After a decade of globetrotting, U.K. native Ben Bulmer ended up settling in Canada in 2009. Calling Vancouver home he headed back to school and studied journalism at Langara College. From there he headed to Ottawa before winding up in a small anglophone village in Quebec, where he worked for three years at a feisty English language newspaper. Ben is always on the hunt for a good story, an interesting tale and to dig up what really matters to the community.
