Another suspicious device found in Vernon

Vernon RCMP closed a street yesterday as they responded to another suspicious device.

According to a Vernon RCMP media release, the 4500 block of 31 Street was closed at 3:30 p.m. yesterday, June 14, following the discovery of a potential explosive device.

Several nearby businesses were evacuated.

"The area will remain cordoned off until officers with the RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit have safely examined, and dealt with the item if necessary," Vernon RCMP Const. Chris Terleski said in the release.

Const. Terleski expected the explosive disposal unit to arrive on the scene yesterday evening.

RCMP have provided no updates since yesterday's media release.

This is the second suspicious device found this week in the city.

On Monday, June 12, Justice Park on 30 Avenue was sealed off following the discovery of a suspicious device.

Ben Bulmer

After a decade of globetrotting, U.K. native Ben Bulmer ended up settling in Canada in 2009. Calling Vancouver home he headed back to school and studied journalism at Langara College. From there he headed to Ottawa before winding up in a small anglophone village in Quebec, where he worked for three years at a feisty English language newspaper. Ben is always on the hunt for a good story, an interesting tale and to dig up what really matters to the community.
