Rory MacDonald: B.J. Penn is fighting for the wrong reasons and will get hurt

SEATTLE – As they prepare to face off Saturday in Seattle, Canadian welterweight Rory (Ares) MacDonald says B.J. (The Prodigy) Penn is fighting for the wrong reasons.

MacDonald says Penn, a former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion, is fighting for status.

MacDonald’s goals are somewhat more basic.

The Montreal-based fighter says “I’m fighting to hurt him, not fighting for someone’s opinion.”

At 33, Penn will be giving up 10 years to MacDonald.

The Canadian, a native of Kelowna, B.C., who trains at the same gym as Georges St-Pierre, is also expected to be much bigger than Penn come Saturday.
