Out-of-towners busted in Kelowna for drug trafficking

Kelowna RCMP uncovered a significant drug trafficking operation on Canada Day following an early morning targeted stabbing.

According to a Kelowna RCMP media release, an unnamed person received non-life-threatening stab wounds following an incident at Richter Street and Coopland Cresent just after 8 a.m. Saturday, July 1. The victim of the stabbing was taken to hospital and later released.

Police at the scene determined the stabbing was connected to a nearby property and two vehicles.

Officers then secured the property and arrested several people inside and outside of the home. A search warrant then uncovered an array of drugs and cash.

Police seized approximately 1.5 kilograms of suspected cocaine, which would have a street value of more than $100,000, along with two kilograms of suspected methamphetamine. and roughly $33,000 in Canadian cash and other items related to drug trafficking.

"Nearly all of the individuals involved are not even from Kelowna, yet decided to bring their criminal behaviour here and try to tarnish what we considered a pretty successful and safe Canada Day long weekend for our residents and tourists alike," Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Michael Gauthier said in a media release issued today, July 5. 

The release doesn't say where the individuals were from.

Everyone who was arrested has been released pending further investigation. RCMP said the suspects are expected to be charged with assault with a weapon and possession for the purposes of trafficking.
